CommentsA humorous novelty piece that can feature a politician, a local personality, a board member, a teacher, etc. Our orchestra members are having a hard time to keep from laughing while trying to play given the interplay between conductor and soloist. "Just Ourselves" (for the Lincoln Bi-Centennial from the musicals "Lincoln & Booth")

Instrumentation3-2-2-2 4-3-3-1 Timp+3, strings, soprano & tenor
Length2'55"
DifficultyMedium
CommentsThis was "lifted" from the historical musical Lincoln & Booth and is the lovely waltz sung by President and Mrs. Lincoln in a private moment at the White House just before leaving for Ford's Theatre. It is especially relevant for the bi-centennial celebration of Lincoln's birth that is taking place in 2009. It is written for soprano, tenor and orchestra.

Noah's National Language

InstrumentationStandard Orchestra: 3-2-2-2 4-3-3-1 Timp+4 + Harp + Strings + Narrator + Actor (Noah)
Length5' 48"
DifficultyModerately difficult, but playable by a good high school orchestra
CommentsThis was a commissioned work to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the Father of the American Dictionary, Noah Webster. The premiere can be heard on-line at http://www.cmpub.com. The piece would work well at any type of American tribute or even patriotic concert as the themes of Chester and Yankee Doodle are simultaneously quoted for a bit in the music.

The Gettysburg Address

InstrumentationStandard Orchestra: 3-2-2-2 4-3-3-1 Timp +4 + Strings + Narrator
Length3' 53"
DifficultyModerately difficult, but playable by a good high school orchestra
CommentsThe Lincoln Bicentennial will be celebrated in 2009. The piece is set to be dramatic with the reading of the entire address interwoven with the music. The original speech took a little over two minutes; this work takes just about four minutes. It would work well at any type of Lincoln tribute, American tribute or even patriotic concert as the themes of The Battle Hymn of the Republic and Dixie are simultaneously quoted while surrounded by original music. In place of the narrator, the premiere reading will be performed by a Lincoln impersonator.
