| Comments | Contemporary but highly expressive. Suitable for any concert, but especially appropriate around the yearly anniversary of the Chernobyl accident. The piece was included for several years in the standard school music textbook for grades 7-8 in Germany and Austria as the sole contemporary work.
The recording of Chernobyl by the Polish Radio & TV Orchestra of Krakow was nominated for the Koussevitsky Recording Award, the Pulitzer Prize, and first place in the1988 British Arts Council's Best New Recording of the Year rankings. It first appeared on the Conifer (UK) label in 1988, and is now available on VMM 3010 from Vienna Modern Masters or Arkiv Music. |
