Three Fun Fables

InstrumentationNarrator with Bb Clar, Bassoon (doubling Contra), C Tpt, Tbn, 1 Violin, 1 String Bass, Harp, 1 Percussion
Length10:45
DifficultyClarinet and Bass parts require good professionals, others are for college-professional level.
CommentsThe fables used are "The Fox and the Crow," "The Dog and His Reflection," and "The Tortoise and the Hare," as retold by the composer. The storytelling style is humorous and entertaining. Should use a conductor, but can be done without a conductor when the narrator is a strong musician. The musical style is melodic and aimed for young children, with comic and picturesque effects. Each instrument is linked to a character in a fable to add to the educational component, and opposites are highlighted, like fast/slow, high/low, etc. Musicians and other adults, as well as kids, have found it stimulating as it doesn't "write down."
